Fierce in fashion and ready to compete, the Martinsville clothing store continues to grow

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A Martinsville clothing store gets help to grow thanks to the Gauntlet business contest.

Martinsville’s Uptown boutique specializes in fashionable clothing and accessories at an affordable price, bringing new brands to the area.

“We have something here for everyone at all price points,” said Christi Hodges, one of the owners.

The owners have expanded and now offer a men’s selection in The Men’s Room Uptown in the adjoining store.

Hodges said the Gauntlet helped them adapt to a changing industry throughout the pandemic.

“It’s completely changed throughout this year, the cost of goods, shipping and everything else,” Hodges said. “So we really needed to find a way to keep evolving, to evolve ourselves and our client.”

Hodges and his business partner Jason Grodensky are participating in this year’s Gauntlet Business Competition to win cash, prizes and a portion of the grant awarded to downtown Martinsville through a community business seed grant awarded by the governor’s office.

Hodges said the money will help with expansion and bring even more merchandise options to their store.

As for the competitive part of the Gauntlet, Hodges said she was ready.

“Bring him. Let’s go,” Hodges said.
