Gary Lineker sends message to Aaron Ramsdale after costly Arsenal mistake against Liverpool
Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at the Emirates on Wednesday night as they sought a Champions League place next season and Aaron Ramsdale was at fault for the crucial opener.
Mikel Arteta’s side entered the game on a five-game winning streak, with their latest victory against Leicester undoubtedly filling them with confidence. But they were undone by a Liverpool side with an embarrassment of riches in attack.
Roberto Firmino came off the bench to nearly kill the game after Diogo Jota fired them ahead early in the second half after an equal opener on 45 minutes. But it was Ramsdale who drew criticism after the Portuguese’s important goal, the ball slipping past the England international at the near post.

Finding space on the left side of the penalty area, Jota took aim and fired a hard shot to the bottom right corner. Ramsdale had moved too far to her left and, despite a touch of the ball, could only watch her nestle in the back of the net.
Following the goal, Match Of The Day presenter and former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker took to Twitter to offer Ramsdale some advice. Instead of criticizing the summer move further, he offered some comforting words.
“A huge goal for @LFC,” Lineker wrote on Twitter. “Pretty much the only mistake I can remember Ramsdale made at @Arsenal. Everyone does. It’s how you respond to it that matters.”
Ramsdale has been a standout performer since joining the club from Sheffield United during the summer transfer window. Arsenal faced widespread criticism for splashing £30m on the goalkeeper but the purchase has since been justified with the 23-year-old keeping 12 clean sheets in the top flight.
