Jet Set tiki bar and restaurant opens on Newburgh seafront

Walking under the Jet Set’s thatched canopy is like teleporting to the tropics.

Tropical flowers and leaves adorn the wallpaper surrounding the interior entrance to this new location on Newburgh’s seafront. A long bar with a bamboo ceiling and black bar top lines the left wall. There’s bamboo and tiki-inspired art everywhere, including vintage tiki art, tropical bird statues, and, of course, tiki statues. There are bubble-like light fixtures in the indoor bar and bird-like ones in one of the seating areas. Authentic 1950s furniture is scattered throughout.

Then there is the plane.

Along one of the interior walls is the side of an airplane, windows and all, backlit with red lights.

Open on Fridays, the Jet Set tiki bar and restaurant is the brainchild of Michael and Alexandra Kelly, owners of the Newburgh flour store and Liberty Street Bistro in Newburgh, and their partners, beverage consultant Jessica Gonzalez, chef Maggie Lloyd, and Pat and Stephanie Nunnari, co-owners of Colorcube Print Co. On the menu, diners will find appetizers to share like smoked cauliflower, double-fried and drizzled with Korean barbecue sauce topped with cashews and green onions; Jet Set Sliders or Edamame Balls with Ginger Soy Dip. As for starters, there are burgers with an assortment of toppings, as well as a few salads.
