Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: how to change clothes, where to buy new outfits

In recent years, the Pokémon series has allowed us to customize our trainers. We’re no longer stuck wearing Ash Ketchum’s clothes – the drip displayed in games like Sword and Shield has become legendary.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet retain customizable outfits, faces, and hair, but with one key difference: you’re now a schoolboy in school uniform. Customization is therefore a bit more limited, but you can still show off your style! Here’s how to change your clothes and appearance in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Fashion tips for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

How to change clothes

Once you have new clothes in the bag, you can change them at any time by pressing the button on the left directional pad on the Joy-Con or the controller.

Navigate clothing categories with the left and right D-Pad buttons, select the clothes you want to try on with the up and down buttons, and press A to try on.

You can preview the outfit by pressing Y.

Can you change/remove your uniform?

You can change between spring, summer, fall and winter outfits, but that’s it. Your uniform stays on all the time, sorry. The uniform colors will also match your game – an orange-red for Scarlet and a bluish-purple for Violet.

Here are the differences:

  • Spring: Long, tight pants, an off-white long-sleeved shirt with colored cuffs, a tie and suspenders.
  • Summer: An ecru short-sleeved shirt, a tie and shorts.
  • Autumn: Knee-length shorts, an off-white long-sleeved shirt with colored cuffs and a tie, and a puffy vest.
  • Winter: Long, skinny pants, an off-white shirt with a tie, a blue sweater and a gray long-sleeved zip-up blazer.

How to take off that stupid hat

Go to the hat menu and press X to get rid of the school hat. You can also do this with gloves, socks and goggles.

Why aren’t hats charging?

Some hairstyles are incompatible with hats. If your hats aren’t charging at all, that’s probably why.

How to change the shell of the Rotom Phone

In the clothing menu, go all the way to the right to find your Rotom Phone cases. You can get new ones from Delibird Presents and from a woman near the steps of Mesagoza.

How to Change Appearance

Press Y to open the outfit menu, then press the + button to open the appearance menu. Here you can completely change your face, from the shape of your eyes to your makeup. You can also press the minus button to temporarily remove glasses and hats to better preview your look.

How to change hairstyle

Unfortunately, you can’t change your hairstyle in this menu — you’ll have to visit a salon. You can find them on your map in major cities, where they will appear as a scissors icon.

It costs $3,000 to change your hairstyle, so make sure you know what you want, but if you give up, it won’t cost you anything.

Where to buy new clothes

Clothing stores can be found in the towns – Mesagoza, Levicia and Cascarrafa. Open the map while you’re in one of these locations and you’ll see the stores marked on your map – the ones with a small T-shirt are the fashion stores. These will often appear as a “fashion street”, which is a row of fashion-oriented shops.

Here’s what they’re selling:

  • Bagin’s – Bags
  • Capbourg – Hats
  • Zapaldea – shoes
  • quarter sock – socks
  • Spec Shack – eyeglasses

There are also general fashion stores, with specific styles:

  • rough and hard — sporty and casual
  • Truth — high-end fashion (think designer brands and sky-high prices)
  • Seguro-style — biker gear

Hopefully, while we can’t change our current outfits, there’s still enough customization to leave your mark on the world and represent you in style.
