Ryu’s Street Fighter 6 theme is straight out of Jet Set Radio
Music has always occupied an important place in street fighter series. Hell, you can’t even think of the 2001 arcade game Capcom vs. SNK 2 without the piano riff of It’s the real love we make play in your head. This shit slap and it sound like the folks back home Capcom is preparing more banger tracks in Street fighter 6.
Today the official street fighter The YouTube page has uploaded the new theme song of his “battle tramp” Ryu called “Viator”. Although I forgot to listen to the new themes for Luke and the lady-who-never-jumps-her-legs, Chun Li, something came to me today and I decided to listen to Ryu’s new bop. Friends, maybe I should drop Juri Han and Main Ryu in Street Fighter 6 because his new theme is direct heat.
It should come as no surprise that the longest theme (so far) goes to the show’s flagship character, but what I didn’t expect was that his theme would be funky as hell . I had to check my tabs to make sure I didn’t have 2 Mello’s music playing in the background by mistake. The flavor text in Ryu’s theme description wasn’t joking when he said we’ll feel the journey he’s been on throughout the series and the energy SF6 reserve for him. I’d bet part of Ryu’s trip involved a trip to Radio Jet Set‘s Tokyo-to with how groovy “Viator” is.
Unlike Ryu Street Fighter V themewhich had all the pomp and circumstance of a song that would play in the finale of a fantasy anime battle, “Viator” is more modern and upbeat, matching the splash of color in the graffiti images featured in SF6parries and finishers.
The groovy hip hop scratches of “Viator” mixed with the euphoric roar of trumpets and licks of what I can assume is a shimasen harmoniously reflect Ryu’s countless battles across the world while giving you something to bounce your loot while kicking people’s asses.
After replaying Ryu’s theme several times today, I started laughing at the parental warning at the start of video viewers that “may contain material inappropriate for children”. Although Ryu’s theme isn’t quite “baby music”, it’s pretty close. Let’s just hope for Sakura’s love Capcom doesn’t put it in SF6 because the lord knows what will happen if she goes against Ryu’s new theme.
