Threesome arrested in connection with retail theft in San Mateo

SAN MATEO – Three women have been arrested on suspicion of stealing clothes from a store in San Mateo, police said.

The theft was reported at around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday at Old Navy at 49 West Hillsdale Blvd., the San Mateo Police Department said in a press release. Officers learned that the suspects stole items and took them in a dark-colored Dodge Charger.

Police said officers spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling eastbound on East Hillsdale Boulevard at Saratoga Boulevard. The car continued on Highway 101 southbound, exited at Marsh Road at Menlo Park, and turned east toward Bayfront Expressway.

Officers stopped the vehicle as it reached the freeway and arrested three occupants without incident. Bags full of Old Navy clothing were found inside the car, police said.

Two of the suspects were identified as Oakland residents in their late teens; third as an American Canyon resident in her early twenties. They were held in the San Mateo County Jail for second degree burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The Bay Area has seen a flurry of similar retail thefts, as well as thefts and break-ins, in recent weeks. On Tuesday, authorities announced the arrest of two people and the recovery of more than $ 200,000 in stolen goods from a house in Vallejo.
